Yesterday I was asked to give a mention to a relatively new band from Brooklyn, who are on tour in the UK promoting their new album “Rush”, which is an interesting play on words!
Obviously I not into just putting up a standard press release, I have to listen to their songs. On this occasion I have to say I was hooked within seconds, I am convinced they will go down well with the student crowd in Manchester, with their earthy quality inde feel.
The band will be playing at the Royal Northern College of Music on the 10th September 2009, supporting Neko Case follow this link to book
I have a suspicion that we will be hearing more of this band in the UK in the coming months, particularly when they officially launch the Album “Rush” here in the UK at the beginning of October.
So to get a feeler I have embedded the video below.
Black Gold – Announce Album/Single/Tour
Single: ‘Breakdown’ September 28th
Album: ‘Rush’ October 5th
Tour: 10 UK Dates w/ Neko Case
Spin Magazine - “Breathlessly experimental, the Brooklyn duo will try any genre once – MOR (‘The Comedown’), MGMT falsetto funk (‘Breakdown’) and sweeping orchestral rock (‘Plans & Reveries’) – as long as it’s grafted to a dance beat and a big hook”
Big Shot - “floating easily between beats and soaring above them”
URB.COM- “shining, shimmering, and quite splendid”
Fresh from the vibrant, seedy Brooklyn underground, Black Gold, having recently shared the stage with Panic At The Disco, Scissor Sister and the Hold Steady, are set to return to the UK this September with 10 shows as special guests of Neko Case.
To coincide with these shows the band will release their debut album ‘Rush’ on October 5th, with new single ‘Breakdown’ out the week prior. Architects of limitless pop tunes, bathed in layers of synths and resplendent with sugary hooks, ‘Rush’ is a thrilling debut album of grand sounds and vast color, renouncing all false prophets which have gone before.
