Well in actual fact it is 2 nights Friday the 4th and Saturday 5th December!

Again a little like Abba Mania you can be sure of a great night the songs of Queen need no introduction but with Garry Mullen the winner of “Stars in their eyes” preforming as Freddie Mercury, you know he will capture the essence of the band.

The stage will be just as dynamic as if it was Queen themselves.

When it comes to Christmas, what would it be without a good pantomime! The kids I am sure will love this with the Chuckle Brothers performing their version of the “Christmas Carol”

For me the Christmas Carol has to be the all time Christmas story, for me you can never beat Alistair Sim. Opps I am of on a tangent so if you want your kids entertained for a couple of hours at Christmas then you will not go far wrong with this performance.

The show is on the 3rd of December at the Manchester Palace Theatre and expect this to be sold out the closer we get to Xmas.

I have never been to the Ballet, but I have to say I like the story line of Giselle a mix of darkness and light. I think the National Ballet put it better;

Giselle is the ultimate Romantic ballet, a tale of innocence, betrayal and the redemptive power of true love. English National Ballet’s traditional staging of this 1841 masterpiece moves from the sunny optimism of Giselle’s idyllic village life to a ghostly, moonlit world of mystery and menace.

Giselle is in love with the handsome Duke Albrecht, but when she discovers that he has deceived her she dies of a broken heart. By Giselle’s grave in a mist-wreathed forest glade, vengeful spirits of abandoned brides force men to dance to their death. Giselle returns as a ghost, and her deep love for Albrecht saves him from his fate.

Adolphe Adam’s music, played by English National Ballet’s symphony orchestra, is an exquisite accompaniment to the thoroughly magical choreography.

All I can say is when I was a youngster and we had the sex pistol the new Romantics and what I felt was a fantastic moment in music history and to listen to Abba was not chic almost suicide for a teenager.

That was then, after watching a tribute band just a few years ago, I can honestly say I had a great time. I suppose it has something to do with the fact the band catches a moment in history with very memorable songs.

Who doesn’t remember Dancing Queen, Waterloo and Take a chance on me. Well if you are undecided I guarantee you will have a great time as it just seems to capture a unique moment in history.

The Big Friendly Giant from the world’s favourite children’s author, Roald Dahl has enchanted young minds over more than twenty five years with stories that still fire the imagination, bring dreams to life and release squeals of both terror and delight.

The BFG is classic Dahl and this brand new stage show promises to mix up heart-pounding adventures with life-long friendships, jumbly words and even some whizzpopping in front of the Queen! When little orphan Sophie is snatched out of her bed in the dead of night by the BFG she fears the worst, but unlike his grisly neighbours the Bloodbottler and the Fleshlumpeater who like nothing more than swalloping human beans, especially nice little childers, the Big Friendly Giant is a dream maker and not a man-eater.

I do not know too much about this production except for the comments from the Palace Theatre´s own web site;

The show will feature exceptionally talented youngsters aged between 4-20 years performing dance, drama & musical arrangements from hit musicals inc. High School Musical, The Wiz, The King and I, Westside Story,  Grease, Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Bugsy Malone and many more…

The show promises to be enthusiastic and enjoyable for people of all ages with special guest appearances.

Still I did manage to find a clip from Youtube just to get a feel. Still with a mix of the songs as above you can be sure the kids will be entertained for the whole night.

Well I am sure Rufus Wainwright is eagerly awaiting to see his operatic show Prima Donna finally hit the stage at the at the Manchester Palace Theatre on 10th 12th 14th 17th and 19th July 2009 as part of the Manchester International Festival.

The original show was planed at the New York Metropolitan Opera, until Rufus wanted to keep its Libretto in French, well what do the Americans know about culture!

So hats off to Manchester for picking up the baton, what I am sure will be a huge hit.

Ken Dodd will be at the Palace Theatre on Saturday 13th June, I find it amazining that he is over 80 and is still working. It just shows you how much he loves his job.

Just off subject it really goes to show if you stay active, you can stay young and healthy. For me Ken Dodd was part of the good old days of TV when there was just 4 channels, good luck Ken.

What did surprise me was he has sold over 100 million records, what can one say.

Probably one of the most anticipated Musicals to come to Manchester will be “We Will Rock You” not just because it was put together by Queen and Ben Elton, but the fact that we have managed to drag them from the West End with a superb 7 year record at the Dominion Theatre.

Queen´s Brian May said of the tour;

“We are excited to be able, finally, to send a brand new top class We Will Rock You company out on tour around the UK. We are completely hands on, and will be visiting! The Mother Ship, in the Dominion Theatre, London, will be rockin’ on all the while, keeping the home fires burning, until further notice! “
